Mineral Exploration in Ireland
Ireland is the largest producer of zinc in Europe and is the 10th largest producer of zinc in the world. 230,000 tonnes of zinc were mined in Ireland in 2015, encouraged by the stable jurisdiction, low corporate tax rates, modern infrastructure and a well educated, flexible and skilled workforce.
Since 1960, 14 significant (resource >1Mt) zinc-lead deposits have been discovered, including the world class orebody at Navan (>100Mt – largest zinc mine in Europe and 8th largest in the world). Currently there are three operating underground Zn-Pb mines: Navan, Lisheen and Galmoy.
Recently, Hannan Metals Limited (Ticker: HAN), a TSX listed company acquired the Kilbricken zinc deposit (formally held by Lunden Mining). IMC’s PL3729 (Tulla Licence) is located on the Kilbricken block.
